We treat many patients who have previously had obesity surgery. Gaining weight after bariatric surgery can be even more guilt and shame-filled than when you first gained weight. But it is the same mechanisms that make you gain weight after bariatric surgery as before. Weight gain depends on genes and environment and is not your fault.
